Frequently asked questions
We're flattered you want to know more!

  • What are your hours?

    We are open from 1 pm - 7 pm Monday - Thursday, 12 pm - 8 pm Friday & Saturday, 12- 6 pm Sunday

  • Do you take reservations?

You do not need a reservation to enjoy your time at Bonobo! Purchase wine by the glass at the bar and get comfy (seating is first come, first serve). We have plenty of seating both inside and outside.

  • Do you serve food?

Yes, we have a small plate menu with a variety of seasonal, tasty bites available for purchase! Upon ordering, your server will hand you a pager. When it buzzes, you can pick up your food at the kitchen, which is located inside on the north end of the main tasting room.

  • Can I taste the wine before getting a full glass?

Yes! We can offer you a small splash of one or two of our wines to help you find a glass to enjoy. Also, if you let us know what you typically like, we can suggest what Bonobo wine might be a good fit for you.

  • Do you have any sweet wines?

We process all of our wines in the classic French style, so all our offerings will fall on the drier side of the wine sweetness spectrum (between 1.5 and 8 percent residual sugar). Our sweetest option is a semi-sweet (at 8 percent residual sugar). We also don’t add any sugar to our wine – it’s just grapes.

  • Is your wine gluten free?

Yes! All Bonobo wines are gluten-free and celiac safe. Our wines are also all vegan.

  • Do you have non-alcoholic options?

Yes. We have a seasonal, non-alcoholic cocktail available for purchase as well as sparkling water. We also have a complimentary, self-serve water station.

  • Can I purchase a bottle of wine for my group and open it there?

Per Bonobo policy, bottles cannot be opened and consumed on our property, so wine bottle sales are to-go only. We are more than happy to set your party up with wine by the glass at the bar, though!

  • Are minors welcome?

Well-behaved and supervised kiddos are welcome to visit Bonobo with you! There are plenty of snacks on our small plates menu that they'll enjoy. We also have a water station, sparkling water, and a seasonal non-alcoholic cocktail available for purchase.

  • Are you dog-friendly?

Yes, we love dogs! We have plenty of tables on our patio and lawn where your leashed furry friends can hang out with you. There are no dogs allowed inside the winery, however, so please walk them around the side of the building. Because you’ll order wine and small plates inside at the bar, let us know if you’re flying solo with your pup and we'll be happy to help you get situated. Feel free to also take your dog on a walk through the vineyard!

  • Do you have a dress-code?

Please wear clothing and shoes that you are most comfortable in, whether casual or dressy. As far as accessory items, we do not allow feather boas, confetti cannons, or adult-themed props. Please store them in your vehicle or mode of transportation prior to entering the winery. Thank you for understanding!

  • Can I bring my own alcoholic beverages?

We do not permit outside alcohol as the Michigan Liquor Control strictly prohibits it. Any outside alcohol brought in will be swiftly confiscated and disposed of. Thank you for being considerate of this policy.

  • Can I bring my own snacks?

We do not allow outside snacks, but small plates are available for purchase at our bar! Our small plates menu is full of fresh, made-to-order appetizers and snacks, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options!

  • Can I take engagement photos on your property?

Yes! We are so happy to hear you'd like Bonobo to be a part of your engagement photos. You are more than welcome to come and take photos anytime we are open for business. If you are looking for private space (no other guests around) either during open hours or before or after we open, there would be a charge for that, depending on what you'd like. You may inquire for that private booking here.

  • Is smoking permitted on the property?

Smoking of any kind (including vaping and the use of e-cigarettes) is strictly prohibited anywhere on Bonobo’s property. This includes inside and outside of the winery, in the vineyard, on the lawn, on the patio, and under the carport attached to the building. If you do need to smoke, Michigan Law requires a distance of at least 500 feet from our building. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping Bonobo a clean, smoke-free environment.

  • Where do I park if your parking lot is full?

If our main parking lot is full, please park in the paved overflow lot located on the north end of the property (the first right as you pull into the winery). Please avoid parking on or around the cul de sac closer to the building, as this must be kept clear for fire code in the event of an emergency. Grassy areas near the building are also off limits. Thank you for your cooperation!

  • Can I park my car with a trailer at your winery?

If possible, please avoid bringing your trailered watercrafts and campers to the winery. During the busy season we need every parking space we can get! If you have no other option but to bring it with you, please park in the larger, overflow lot.

  • When did Bonobo open for business?

Bonobo officially opened its doors in 2014, but we began growing grapes in 2010.

  • How many acres of property does Bonobo have?

Bonobo sits on 50 total acres of beautiful farmland with 23 acres of it devoted to growing our grapes (so far!).

  • Do you use pesticides on your vines?

No. Bonobo’s vines are completely free of pesticides. During the growing season, we use a non-toxic, organic spray to help keep the bugs at bay. Other small critters, like bunnies and chipmunks, still make their way through our vineyard from time to time for a snack

  • Why is there white netting around some of your vines?

For part of the growing season, we wrap a white protective netting around our red grape vines to keep birds from snacking on the red grapes. They are attracted to their brilliant purple hue (and delicious, tart flavor!) and pick them from the vine. The netting prevents this. The white grapes, however, blend in with the green leaves and the birds don’t find them as appetizing (they don’t see them). So, we don’t need to wrap them.
